Aside from teaching privately, Steve has served as an instructor at Phillip’s Academy, in Andover, Massachusetts. Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, The Peddie School in Hightstown NJ, and currently The Princeton Regional School district.
Steve has performed with various Jazz Artists and has recorded under his own name and with others. For 2 years Steve was the Musical Director at Foundation Theater in Burlington New Jersey and for 20 years Steve was the pianist for the summer arts Program at the Peddie School in Hightstown New Jersey.
Steve has also performed on Broadway. For twelve years he played, conducted and composed original works for the National Dance Institute under the direction of Jacques D’Amboise. He conducted the Ice Capades with Scott Hamilton and Dorothy Hamill, and played for a variety of performers, including Mel Torme, Henny Youngman, and Steven Wright. Steve toured with the “New Artie Shaw Band” and appeared in the 1987 Academy Award winning Documentary on Artie Shaw, “Time is all You’ve got”.
Steve is portrayed in the 2014 film “Whiplash” (winner of three academy awards) written and directed by his former student Damien Chazelle.
He currently plays in his own band for public and private functions.
Steve Kramer is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music.
